"The buildings that hadn’t entirely collapsed barely stood, with caved in roofs and walls pierced with rockets shells. Entire blocks had been obliterated to rubble"

Here is the internal link where I analyze a literary device Hosseini uses in part of the passage.

Amir has returned to Afghanistan and is now at the capital, Kabul. After learning about the truth from Rahim Khan that Hassan is actually his half-brother and that he and his wide had been executed by the Taliban, Amir is now in search of the orphanage that Hassan's son, Sohrab, is in.

In this quote, Amir describes the neighborhood he is in, Jadeh Maywand, and how "The buildings that hadn’t entirely collapsed barely stood, with caved in roofs and walls pierced with rockets shells [and] entire blocks had been obliterated to rubble." This piece of imagery describes how entire structures are falling apart and being abandoned, and shows the reader how conditions in Afghanistan are during the war. This quote also emphasizes cultural values such as civil unrest and life during wartime.
